I'm all for the one person only as that makes shopping much quicker. It stops couples standing, blocking shelves ,discussing which product to buy.

Hats off to my local Co-op supermarket yesterday; an orderly over 2 metre distanced queue outside, 2 in 2 out, hand sanitiser offered at entrance, trolleys & baskets cleaned between uses, people inside spaced properly.

Local PO too, 1 in 1 out, you stick your own postage sticker on parcel & place in sack yourself; display cabinets used to create a 1 way system so customers were kept apart.

One piece of advice I saw was that when shopping, to only handle goods with your non-dominant hand then less risk of touching your face [which you do with dominant hand usually] after handling a pack someone else has touched.

ADDED: Only issue I saw in Co-op was that the screens for self checkout were not cleaned between uses. I had gloves on but others might not. Also heat sensitive screens do not react if you have thicker gloves on.

I wear white plastic type gloves but I can see I will be running out soon and I don't suppose I will be able to get them

I've yet to see any evidence of trolley/basket cleaning in either my local Co-op or Sainsburys and no hand sanitizer offered either. I've been taking a packet of large disinfectant wipes with me to clean my trolley handles etc for weeks - just waiting to be asked if I've paid for them  ;D

From M&S

Our stores are carefully managing the number of people shopping at any one time. We have introduced floor markings to ensure a two-metre space is maintained between customers as well as installing protective perspex screens at checkouts. Our stringent hygiene procedures mean colleagues are washing their hands every 30 minutes as well as thoroughly cleaning trolleys and baskets throughout the day, and cleaning self-checkouts after every customer.
We are also deep-cleaning all stores every evening.

I see that some of the major supermarkets are relaxing their rules about the number of each item that can be bought by each shopper, they say it's because they are aware that some people are shopping for others who are unable to. While I applaud their reasons I think it's a mistake and that some people will go back to loading their trolleys with stacks of toilet paper, pasta etc because no-one knows when things will go back to anywhere near normal.

I had a letter from one of the Supermarkets saying they were relaxing their limits as people were now shopping more sensibly and that their deliveries etc were back to normal. I think if people know they can get stuff they won't panic buy. Hopefully the stores will have learnt their lesson and at the first sight of panic buying will re-impose limits.
