The shooting of Tom Tutty by Jack McCann is reported in the newspapers on 7 April 1900.
Thomas Tutty death cert gives death as 13th March

Can you post a link to the census.

I'll try to find more in the papers later but so far it's proving difficult.

Found a report of his appearance in court in Baltinglass , think this was 13th April.
John/Jack in his sworn statement claimed he was not in the house when Tom was shot, he also said he is a native of Bishop's Hill Co.Kildare.
The shooting happened in James Collins house in Coolmandra and Collins' 5 year old son John was present.
John Collins claimed Jack shot Tom, but he was only 'tricking'.
Jack/John later admitted his had shot Tom, he didn't know the gun was loaded.
He was put forward for trial at the next Wicklow Assizes.

Wicklow Assizes July 1900
Manslaughter of Thomas Tutty
The prisoner pleaded not guilty (he's not named)
The jury found the prisoner not guilty and he was discharged.

So he can't have been in prison in 1901.

Edited to add, in this report it gives his age as 19.

It will be if details posted as facts aren't facts!

Wicklow Assizes July 1900
Manslaughter of Thomas Tutty
The prisoner pleaded not guilty

..so he can't be in Naas Prison in 1911 unless the key to cell was lost in July 1910    ;D  ;D

I'm not sure there was a jail/prison in Naas in 1901, the old Naas Goal was out of use by 1893.

What needs looking at is Jack McCann statement that he is a native of Bishop's Hill Kildare, I wouldn't mind his age constantly changing in the papers, that's not unusual.
Question is was he born in Dublin and raised in Kildare or is there a mix up between the Dublin chap and a Kildare chap.
