I wonder if this is relevant - Sheffield Daily Telegraph 14 June 1916  Mr Howard Hensman - Well known journalist dies in India - the report lists him having a son of the same name in England who was a well known writer

If you have access there is an interesting article in Sheffield Evening Telegraph 17 July 1912 .   It reports a court case re a Wife's Good Name - Slander Damages Against a Mother in Law - A painful case. 

It confirms the Francis Margaret Smith was also known as Hensman but unmarried

I think that we've now safely established that he was in London, with his family, and going by the surname Lawson.
