Thanks, I wouldn't rule anything out. Although I thought it was rare for anyone who was transported and got a ticket of leave to actually return to Britain because of the cost involved. But could have worked his passage on a ship I suppose. Mary Ann Caulder could be the daughter. There is only one record (1851 census) which has her name on spelt as Marian.

Could this be the daughter Marian / Maryann Blissett in 1861 in Canada
Without parents and possibly an inmate in some sort of institution.
