Dathai, thank you very much for your help. I am confused however. I have one death record for Herbert that lists his death as 1886, age 53, but has his occupation as publican. This fits better with birth years of his children, 1861 through 1873. The other record lists him as tobacco spinner, but has him dying in 1878 at age 74. If you can shed any light on this, I would be most grateful. Thank you, Rob

Sinann, Thank you for this wonderful information. When I first began my search for Herbert Phair, I thought his name would be uncommon and easy to locate. Obviously, I was mistaken. I will move forward under the assumption that the two Herberts I have death records for may be father and son, and that the third who married Ellen Callanan is a nephew/cousin. Maybe this will lead to a solution. Many thanks to you, dathai and Maggsie, I am indebted to you all, Rob

That was the result just searching for Herbert Phair, I needed a break than, but it's worth playing around with the search so just tried 79 North Main Street.

March 1880 H Phair is selling Interest and Goodwill in Old Established Tobacco and Snuff Manufactory, No 79 North Main St. (facing St.Peter's Market.)

If I see anything else I'll add it here

Up to 1870 79 North Main St belonged to J O'Brien a snuff dealer
The Auction to sell H. Phair interest wasn't held until 1881
so he was only there from 1870 to 1881 at most.

Herbert Phair who died March 1886 is buried in St.Finbar's cemetery

Had a good zoom of the headstone    what i make out  or think i do

Erected by Herbert Phair in memory of his beloved wife Anne
a fond mother and effectionate wife
who departed ???????
the abode/above??????
virtuos of warm affection
and the/her faith
and tender charity
she died on the 8th? of June? 1877
aged ??years
may she rest in peace

Herbert's name/death may be recorded on the base but there are too many lichens on the stone to make anything out.
