Quick look at the GRO INDEX, can see two children, MARSHALL - mother's maiden name: COOK, Marylebone - Herbert in 1854 and Charlotte in 1856.

I think they may be in Marylebone in 1861 with parents John &  Emily,  not Edward & Mary Ann.

What names did Louisa and John BOWER call their children - (looking for family names)

Mary Ann MARSHALL was christened 8 October 1826 at South Cerney, Gloucestershire, parents: John (Servant) and Jane - residence, London)

Checking for the 1851 Census Middlesex, St Marylebone - St John - District 03

There are houses listed in New Church Street, (address Louisa gives on her marriage certificate) -

Unless another Enumerator - did New Church Street (other numbers) - which sometimes happens, can't see Louisa - who unfortunately doesn't give a number.

There is at 23 New Church Street - at the home of George FAULKENER - aged 30, a Journeyman Coachmaker - a

John MARSHALL - Visitor, aged 35, Gardener, born Berks, Reading.

The whole street seems have reasonably wealthy people (trade)

---

I have seen census etc where the father's occupation was Farmer - (which in some cases, means labourer for a farmer)

What about this baptism at St George's, Hanover Square?

9 Jan 1829  Louisa d/o John & Jane Marshall   Servant   Seymour St

Seymour Street is less than a mile from Lisson St, so everything fits with the family I found in the 1851 census.

I've found what looks like the same family in 1841 at Melcomb Mews, Marylebone.  That seems to be close to Lisson Grove.  Melcombe Place is in front of Marylebone Station, so the mews was probably somewhere on the site of the station.

John Marshall, 50, M.S.
Jane, 50
Mary, 15
Louisa, 17
All stated to be born in county, but the 1841 isn't renowned for accuracy ....

This looks like John's burial at Kensal Green Cemetery.

24 April  1860  John Marshall aged 70
9 Omega Terrace, Alpha Road, St Marylebone.  Entry no.32837

Alpha Road is the continuation of New Church Street.

And the 1861 census has at the same address
Jane Marshall, head, widow, 72, lodging house keeper, Gloucestershire (looks like Southsand)
Mary Ann, dau, unm, 30, occupation blank, birthplace ditto

There are several other ladies listed at the address but they are shown as separate households and are probably permanent lodgers.

I have searched for my great grandmother for years. Now with the help of another researcher it appears her parents were Frederick Bower born 1829 Essex and Louisa Marshall b 1824 Avington Berkshire.

My GGrannie was born 2 years or more before Louisa and Frederick married. She was born Mary Ann probably Marshall 1850 Marylebone Middlesex I believe she may have been illegitimate  Would these births be able to be found. They emmigrated to Australia in 1855,where in 1857 another Mary was born to Frederick and Louisa any help would be great Thanks in advance Kate

What surname did Mary Ann marry under?  Any father named on her marriage cert?
Where did you get Louisa's birthyear & birthplace from?   Have you assumed Mary Ann was b Marylebone as that is where Louisa & Frederick married?

Marriages June qtr 1853
Frederick Bower  Marylebone    1a   701
