On line Death Register

Is there a main death register for New Zealand I can search on line?

I have a gentleman, born 18 March 1924 in UK.  He worked in the Gold Coast in the 50s and 60s.  I can't see he returned to UK, and in his correspondence is the mention that he hopes to relocate to New Zealand after his contract was over.  As I can't find a corresponding death in the UK, I'm wondering if it were possible to look in the New Zealand records. 

Can anybody tell me if this is possible?

Another option is to look up the name on www.archway.archives.govt.nz . This includes the index for probate files. Not all deaths required probate but if he's listed you should get full name, occupation, and the year and district in which probate was finalised.

Older probate files, up to about the 1960s, can be viewed at www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1865481

Some NZ cemeteries and councils have put their burial and cremation indexes online. If you know where he died you could Google the local cemetery website.

You could search for the name on Ancestry, FindMyPast and FamilySearch. They have electoral rolls, passenger lists and links to sites such as FindAGrave.
