Doherty-Gibbons 1830s on
« on: Tuesday 28 April 20 03:09 BST (UK) »
Michael Doherty married Anne/Hannah Gibbons 1834 (according to 1851 census search result).  Lived in Church Hill (son Patrick said he was born there in 1832).  Lived in Tirargus in 1851.  They had at least 7 children: PATRICK, HUGH and WILLIAM who all went to AUSTRALIA; MICHAEL, GRACE and ANN who stayed in DONEGAL, near LETTERKENNY; and MARY (married James Callahan, d. 1873), my gggmother who died in TIRARGUS in 1878.
Michael, Jr married Catherine McGinty in 1895, lived in Tirargus in 1901 and Letterkenny in 1911.
Grace never married, lived with Michael and Catherine in 1911 and died in 1927.
Ann married John McCay and may have died in 1942 at age 92.
Hannah Gibbons may have been sister or aunt to ANN and CATHERINE GIBBONS who emigrated and were living in a house Ann bought in PITTSBURGH, PA by 1870.
Does anyone have any connection to GIBBONSes?  Ann and Catherine Gibbons' father was William and mother was Bridget McGlenn/McGlynn according to info Ann gave for her sister's death cert.
Thank you!
Meg
Main focus: Callahan, Doherty, Gibbons, all probably Donegal

Thank you Kiltaglassan for the links.
Thank you Jack for your reply.  I haven't found your thread yet.  I'll look into John, but seems like a long shot.  Although Gibbons is not often a Donegal name...

Megs & Kiltiglassen,
Gibbons name does not have a big footprint in Co Donegal, but they are there!

Cheers
Jack
