Richard Keen bapt. 1720 Broadwell
« on: Tuesday 28 April 20 12:55 BST (UK) »
The baptism of Richard Keen in 1720 at Broadwell has the day different depending on the source.
  • Gloucestershire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1813 gives the day as 21. Looking at the image of the transcript it definitely is 21, the 2 and the 1 are written very differently.
  • Same source but now "an extract of the register of Broadwell" gives the day as 22, and again looking at the image of the record it definitely is a 2 and a 2.
  • Third source, "England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975" gives the day as 22, but there is no image of the record to view.
I am inclined to trust the first source and say the day was 21, and for some reason when copying over the records it was wrongly copied over as 22.

Any thoughts about this? Has anyone else seen a similar thing before?

Another thing to note, is that the baptism has a note of "omitted" - what does this mean?

I've found another instance of this, in the same records set (Gloucestershire records - Broadwell), for Judith Keen:

27 May 1727 - Parish record
28 May 1727 - Extract copy

One baptism does state

Omitted: Richard KEEN Son of Jho KEEN baptised May 21st 1720  (which was a Tuesday)

and does the baptism above

Omitted: Tho HOBBES born about May 1st 1720  (Broadwell 1605-1812)

Baptized, Thomas the Son of Benjamin HOBBS - May 1st 1720 - (Broadwell 1580-1812) (which was a Wednesday)

? What days did baptisms take place in Broadwell - each day, or special days of the week  - quick check with other baptisms - Wednesday's was a popular day - also Sunday's...
