Ah, but is there a marriage?
If not it could imply wife Hannah was that older sister of Lucy.

Essex Standard,  18 Dec 1835

St botolph Aldgate, John Wilson widower and Hannah wiggins 21 Oct 1832 by licence. No wiggins or wilson witnesses.
Quite a long way away. Says both of the parish.

Well found, nannyj!
They'd have known who Hannah was in Rochford though?

Yes. There was no marriage there though. Was the licence to marry his sister in law? I’m not sure if that was allowed then for consanguinity reasons?

Hi
No it was illegal. I guess that's why they married in London.
But when they return to Rochford the folk there would know who Hannah was? That she was Lucy's sister (if she was)

Some other Wilsons in Rochford, in case they may be useful (like connected, you never know!)

A marriage there, 20 July 1825
George Winterbon and Mary Ann Wilson
witnessed by John Wilson, Elizabeth Wilson
BT here (no good for signatures)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9Q97-YSLF-RRB?i=9&cat=515928

In 1851 we find George and Mary A Winterbon in Rochford. He is a Draper (Master)
She is 57, born Middlesex Hammersmith.

Drapers, tea dealers, interesting.

1841 census has a Mary Wilson, 77, Independent, Not Born County, in Rochford
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQ26-2ZK

Burial at Rochford, 25 March 1848, Mary Wilson, age 84 (info from ancestry)

Couple of baptisms in Rochford to Thomas and Mary Wilson, Sarah in 1803, Eliza in 1807
James, son of Thomas and Mary Wilson was buried there in 1805

Burial 20 Nov 1811, Thomas Wilson, from King's Head Inn
PR here

Might the aged Mary we saw in 1841 be the widow of Thomas? :-\

A George Harrison Wilson, Esq., and his wife Frances, posh people, were having children baptized in Rochford in the early to mid 1820's.
John

Hi
Going on his age on death, John Wilson was born 1799. Hopefully that is fairly accurate, but certainly do allow a year either side.
Having such a common name he probably won't be very easy to pin down. So am still hoping there might be a connection to other Wilsons in Rochford. There aren't many. He named his first son Thomas, could John have come to Rochford as a youngster with Thomas and Mary? :-\

Lucy wiggins baptised at st Andrews Rochford to thomas and Elisabeth wiggins 19.11.1801

But Lucy's father was also a Thomas.
Nannyj, can you see the originals of John's marriage to Lucy, and the 1825 marriage in Rochford of Mary Ann Wilson, where a John Wilson was a witness?
Could the signatures indicate whether they are the same man or not?
John

Thanks my grandfather was a George James wilson 1856 to 1930 — one family member has it that his father was John Wilson 1831 son of John Wilson 1801— but my son has it that my Great grandfather was a Thomas Wilson ,
Were they brothers or different Wilson’s ???
Your help is truly appreciated
