So we can now safely say Annie died before 1901 as Arthur remarried and was living in Gravesend, Kent with new wife and sister in-law Kate Tew.

Just looking over deaths between 1897 and 1901, only one that fits at this stage is in Somerset 1898.

Thanks

Arthur was the son of John Martin born abt 1866, as it states on his marriage to Annie Maria Tew (of Leire) on the 26 Aug 1897.
I just can't seem to find any census record for the couple after this date.

What census information did you have on Arthur before this date?
You have been shown a proposed birth, in Market Harborough, making him illegitimate - so that marriage information was wrong?
He is married to Blanche in 1901 and Grace in 1911 - have you found a marriage to Blanche?
Or, is Blanche not his wife, as that is not completely specified in 1901?
Have you found a death for Blanche?

I thought 'Hope' was a strange middle name (son for the 'wrong' Annie?).

There is this illegitimate birth in West Bromwich, just for mis-information:

Arthur Hope Martin mmn Martin
GRO Reference: 1866  M Quarter in West Bromwich

I don't think we should assume that Annie had died. The marriage may simply have broken down; unless we can identify an obvious burial, it could be that Annie was still around, and maybe using another name.

Neither can we assume that all details on a marr cert are 100% accurate; my grannie declared her estranged father dead when she married, despite the fact that he stayed living within a couple of miles of her home, and carrying on a business in the family name, for the next 16 years!!

I can't find any marriages that fit between Arthur and Blanche, and only 1 possible between Arthur Martin and Grace Emmeline Hawkins in1904 in Kings Norton. This may not be the right Arthur Martin of course!
