The marriage certificate for Hilda Maree Olsen and William George Llewellyn arrived this morning. Her father is recorded as Ole Olsen, deceased. His profession was that of a Mariner. Also shows William was employed as a Dock Constable which I did not know. On the 1881 census he is employed as a Sawyer in Grimsby.

Hmmm!
This Hilda doesn't seem to be your Hilda.
Maybe Sweden isn't the country to look in. Olsen is usually Norwegian or Danish. In Swedish it is usually Olsson but spellings can of course vary especially in non Scandinavian countries.
Looking for Hilda in Norway and Denmark won't be that easy either. I'll see what I can do.

I presume it does say "Olsen" on the certificate?

"heywood" previously posted......There is a Hilda Olsen 26 yrs, b Norway at  1881 4650/5/1

Maybe??????  in 1881 this Hilda was aged 26 so born 1855 whereas on the 1886 marriage certificate Hilda is recorded as aged 28 so born 1858.

I am intrigued by her spelling of Marie. She even had the name corrected which might mean she was literate.
Also what does the number "19" if that is what it says signify?

I have been told that the number  "19" written above the name Marea, that was changed to Maree was the 19th correction in the register and in the right hand margin of the certificate it says "ninetee (missing n) and the initials of the registrar who made the correction.

Given the fathers names are different from the Hilda who left Sweden for the USA via Hull and the Hilda on the marriage certificate we can safely say that my Great Grandfather did not marry the Hilda from Sweden who went to the USA?

If that is the case I wonder if the Hilda that "Heywood" found on the 1881 census living in Sheffield might be her but the ages are a few years different.  She was from Norway which ties in with your feeling she might have been born in Norway given the spelling of Olsen.
