Stepney Register Office
« on: Friday 08 May 20 11:38 BST (UK) »
Just a quick question aimed at anyone who may have a better knowledge of East London history then me!
My grandparents were married in 1939 and on their wedding certificate it names their place of marriage as The Register Office, district of Stepney. I'm trying to find a picture of the actual building but when I google search Register Office it just brings up pictures of the Tower Hamlets Register office. Was this the same place?? I get confused with London districts and what was where??

It did thank you, it has former RD for Stepney under the Tower Hamlets Register office so assuming the register Office did move after 1939.

I googled this, found arbour square gardens and Saint Thomas' in arbour square. I don't know if this would have been the same building? It just says 'The Register Office' on the marriage cert.
