I was not happy with it, just how many people started in London and then went to North West - mariners would, so probable.

Has anyone got her in 1841/1851/1861?

I gathered you were not happy with the ? alongside  :)

I have not found Cora on earlier census or John Lane.  I would agree that William Smith is her son.

Was she a 'widow' when she married Christopher Waller

Hi there. Thanks to rosie99 & chempat for the replies and with the additional info. With regards to the replies from chempat. I agree with you regarding the mothers age and there lies one of my problems. As I say. In all documents I've found on various sites. Her name, whilst with slight variations ( Cora,Mary, Smith, Lane), Cora Waller, Cora Smith, Cora Lane and finally with my ancestor - Cora King and that convinces me that in each case it is her. However, the spanner in the works is her DOB. If I take the earliest one then as you say she would be too old for any children with my ancestor, but if I use 1836 or indeed 1831 then it's possible.
she was  indeed a widow when she married Christopher Waller (Cumbria parish register 10/09/1859) and then a widow when she married William A King. Yes! to being in 1861 census and yes to her in 1871 census although in 1861 he's a painter (no great issue).
So you see. Do I look for possible descendants bearing the name King or assume that she was too old?

Sorry, meant have you found her in 1841 or 1851 (she claims age 32 in 1861 so born 1828/1829).

Hi Folks.

Thanks for all the responses. Alas I know further on in ascertaining her birth date. Starting from death and working forward I've listed what I have.
Throughout all these records her name will be Cora, Cora Mary, Cora Mary Ann.
On several documents her father's name is John Lane.
On several documents her birth place is London.

Death: 1915, Age 84. Birth date 1831.
1911 Census: Age 74. Birth date 1836
1901 Census: Age 59. Birth date 1842
1891 Census: Age 54. Birth date 1837.
1881 Census: Age 45. Birth date 1836
1879. Marriage records she is just down as "full". married to William A King
1871 Census: Age 40. Birth date 1831
1861 Census: Age 32. Birth date 1829.
1859 Marriage records Age 39 Birth date 1820 married to Christopher Waller.
Nothing found in 1851 & 1841 census records
As you can see the birth dates vary. I can accept those 1836/1837 as being the same person.
Those varying between 1829/1831 could be taken as one person but concerned in linking them to the above dates.
the spanner in the works is the 1820 date on marriage to Christopher Waller and yet I've seen several different copies showing this date.
As stated in previous post in 1861 census a male bearing the name William John Smith age 9 is at the address. It can therefore be assumed he is her child from previous marriage. This would make his birth date to be circa 1851. as noted above no records for either Cora Smith or Lane  in 51&41 census records.

Love to hear your comments.
