Over the years I have written to various family members in NZ but failed to get much further.

Im not finding anything on the Dr and his wife anywhere.

I agree with Wivenhoe about Richard's marriage cert and see what it has on it. Or if you already have the certificate are you able to share with us the information on it please.

Using QLD bmd with no names entered just the event date for either a birth for Richard and deaths for parents and going through the names that appear and there is on one even remotely close to their names showing up.

Horowhenua Chronicle  18 June 1931
LINE FISHERMAN DROWNED.
OVERWHELMED BY SURF, (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Thursday. Richard Anstruther Burson, 25, has been missing since Tuesday evening and is believed to have been drowned. His clothes and a hurricane lamp were found on the beach. He had been in the habit when fishing of stripping and going out into the surf with a line. It is feared the heavy seas of Tuesday overwhelmed him. Burson came from Australia and has no relatives in this country.

Obviously he was found alive but no articles stating that.

The surnames ANSTRUTHER and/or BURSON in Australia are almost non existant in each state.

TROVE archive newspapers in Australia are full of fictional book characters with the name ANSTRUTHER.

I suggest the man in NZ created false parents.
