DNA
168cM across 11 segments.     3/4th cousins

I have just noticed that this lady has on her tree Selina Reid 1917 - 2014
I am not sure why and if there is a connection. Doesn't ring a bell with me.

Thanks

I think Selina was Albert's wife.

Yes. They married in Edinburgh in 1939.

Alice (his mother) is recorded as a confectioner and newsagent  :)

He obviously didn't know the occupation of Alice, as she was an Insurance Agent.

In 1918 my great aunt gave birth to an illegitimate son in Aberdeen, but unfortunately died in 1920.  It looks as if her parents or other members of her family, were not willing to bring him up and he went to live with a Hugh Dey and wife and was brought up in Inverness, we believe, although Hugh was born in Auchindoir.

Was this a common thing to send off an orphan so far away.

Also can't wait for the 1921 census which may clear up things.

Any help would be appreciated.
hello I am Alice's granddaughter and it is my father you are talking about hope you get this Dorothy Campbell

Hi Dorothy, welcome to RootsChat  :)

I really hope your father had a good, happy life with the family he was brought up with after the sad events & it's nice to find other unknown relatives too.

For reference, there may be other relations researching, you may both be able to connect with...

REID ALBERT OAKES / ROBERTSON SELINA MARY B - 1939

Hello the family were good to my dad and were in contact the rest of their lives but my dad always thought he was in a children's home and from 1921 census he was with the dey family at least from 6 months after his mum's death. What relationship are you to him/me?
