Hello again Gadget
As you know I am assisting a lady who is very fragile at the moment and her records seem to be a bit sparse. So I have gone over what I have as follows.
Albert Reid was actually born 23rd June 1919 illegitimate son of Alice Jane Cooper Reid.
Alice was born 16th February 1889 and never married, and died 19th September 1920.
Her parents were William Reid born 1862 Strachan, Kincardineshire and Catherine McDonald born Dingwall. Alice was still living with her parents in Aberdeen when she gave birth and died.
But on 15th December 1919 she lodged a paternity case against Alberts father, ie Alexander Oakes(I think this was the surname, not very clear on document) he was living at 76 Hospital Street, Glasgow.  But it would appear that the family did not want to bring Albert up.  Poor soul. The lady in question, Alberts daughter, said her father never talked much about the Dey family or his upbringing, so I am not sure why she thinks he was brought up in Inverness.  Perhaps she thought because Hugh died near Inverness, that is why. Because Alice was my grandfathers sister, I have searched my records for any connection, with no luck so far.
Once again thank you for your help.

I'll see if I can find any connections between the two families and get back to you.
It could take a while  ;D

Hello again

I've traced the Reid/McDonald/Oakes line back but I haven't found a link to the Dey family so far.

On the other thread, you mentioned that you'd found Hugh's wife Elizabeth (Jane/Polly) on the 1901 as a M*clean. I've not found her so far. Can you give me the ref to this. please?

Ah, thanks. I thought you'd said that she was down as M*clean, so I assumed that she was living with her mother and step father.

I was trying to follow Jane Milne/M*cLean.

Sorry if I misled you.  I didn't know Alice Reid had had an illegitimate son until I treated myself to the ancestry DNA test at Christmas, and made a connection with Albert's mother.

What amount of DNA do you share with her?  It might help me work out the possible relationships to follow.
