William Winstanley circa 1922
« on: Thursday 14 May 20 12:49 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help.  I am trying to find the birth of William Winstanley born about 1922 I believe in the wigan area.  The only information I have is:
Marriage: 2 Jun 1945 St Stephen, Wigan, Lancashire, England
William Winstanley - 23, 3530134 Private Pioneer Corps, Bachelor, 138 Frog Lane Wigan
Stella Buckley - 21, Machinist, Spinster, 79 Whelley Wigan
Groom's Father: Thomas Winstanley, Iron worker
    Bride's Father: James Buckley, Slater
    Witness: C Winstanley; Bessie Farrimond
Married by Banns by: W. A. Wiffen Vicar Register: Marriages 1943 - 1954, Page 16, Entry 32 Source: Original register at Wigan Archives.
I am also going to post this request on the Lancashire forum.
Many thanks

I have suggested on the other thread that the way to establish his parents is to look at the Winstanley family who are living at 138 Frog Lane on the 1939 register

Thank you for that it has been very very helpful.  There is an anomaly, however, on which I would welcome your advice.  I have looked at the 1939 census for Frog Lane and it all checks out with the exception of Thomas Winstanley where the birth is given as 16 October 1890 and this is where the anomaly occurs as when I looked at the October 1911 marriage registration for Thomas and Mary Ellen her age is given as 21 which ties in but Thomas's age is given as 24 and when I looked at the census returns 1887/1888 seems to be his birth.  Any advice would be most welcome
Thanks

Ages on documents such as census are unreliable.  You really need to locate the birth certificate to confirm his year of birth
