At long last I am starting to unravel the mystery of my
Grandmothers parents, Joseph & Mary Pedley. (Relatives,
long dead, remembered their names because ot the religious connotations. It was remembered that Emily Pedley ( my grandmother) became an orphan whilst still
young. !n 1891 Emily is found living with her sister(thanks
Tati) As she is shown with Joseph & Mary in 1881, Then I assumed that her parents had died between the census's.
I have narrowed their deaths to 2 dates which would appear to fit rhe circumstances.
I have just received the death certs. for the 2 likely candidates.
Mary pedley died 13-1-1886 aged 51y (wife of Joseph Pedley) witnessed by Fanny Barnett her Daughter, who Emily went to live with. This is O.K
The problem is Joseph. Why is he not the witness on the document? or didn't it matter?
The only Joseph I can find who died at the right time (obviously not for him ) & who seems to fit the bill, died 19-10-1887, aged 52y. the witness is Eliza Pedley, widow of the deceased. (Kinsey street Congleton)
I can find a marriage between a Joseph Pedley & Eliza Goodall in1887.
The only Eliza Goodall that I can find would be 25y in 1887.
Did Joseph leave Mary before her death in 1886?
or was Fanny o.k as a witness.
Can anyone tell me the exact date of the marriage in 1887?.
( obviously it has to take place before 19-10-1887.)
Can anyone confirm the ages on the marriage and the witnesses?
These certs. cost £7-00 a time and I have been lucky up to just with selecting the correct people. I am not sure on this one. Before I order I would like a bit more confirmation.
Any other details that you think may help no matter what it is, would be most welcome.
