Looks like it all ties in

George Smith Fisher
Retired Schoolmaster
26th May 1960
Born 20th Dec 1890

So WW1 (1914) he would have been 24
In WW2 he was a group commander (lieutenant) with the Auxiliary Units - British Resistance, in 1940 age 50

If he had the rank of Lieutenant, this means he would have held a rank in WW1. So Sgt, captain and Lieutenant all possible
