DNA match
« on: Tuesday 19 May 20 15:33 BST (UK) »
I have an elderly relative who has had a DNA Test with Ancestry.com last January, two months before he took this test his Grandson also took a test, yet there has been no notification of a match as yet. Is this normal?

They should have got the resulting match by now.  Did they both fully activate their tests?

Have they both got lists of matches?

It looks as if it could be a possible  NPE

Can you upload their DNA files to sites that have a chromosome browser - e.g. Gedmatch - and see  what they show on the browser?

I will pass on that information regarding the GEDMATCH to the Grandson, Thanks Gadget. Sorry to be so ignorant but what is NPE? One more thing perhaps you can help with, there are two matches from full brothers one is 29Cm across 3 Segments & the other 25cM across 4 segments is this usual?

Full brothers should be in the range 1613 to 3488. See the Painter chart:

https://dnapainter.com/tools/sharedcmv4

NPE = non-parental event, meaning possibly not the parent(s) that it is thought to be. It could be at various generation levels  :-\

Sorry Gadget I haven't explained properly, it isn't the DNA match of the Brothers to each other, but for each one separately to my relative. Thanks for the other information.

The chart that I linked to should give the relationship of the grandson to the brothers. Just look on the chart or put in the amount in the top box and it will show the possible relationships.
