There is this report and others

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/local-news/dumfries-war-heros-hidden-medals-7301534

I'm not sure but the researcher might be stoop!

But it say he was a cattle drover, so it's not the correct one.

James Kerr (a woolen mill labourer) and Jane ms Stirling

This is my line of Kerrs, Stoop and me have circled each other for years.

Jane Stirling died and James Kerr remarried a young widow Ruth Helena Strickland while at an advanced age. My Grandfather (his son) william Charles Kerr told me the family did not approve.
This family of Kerrs came from Kirkbean (James Kerr & Catherine Wilson)

James Kerr.
there are a lot of us. and I have quite a few photos

Thanks for the clarification. There were quite a few Kerrs there. I don't think I have any in my tree so far, but you never know  ;D

Droving was a seasonal occupation for crofters/agricultural workers/tradesmen. The head drover himself would have to spend the off-season drumming up customers & organising the finance etc for next season. The greatest of the drovers was Cameron of Corriecoille a very wealthy man.
