A tree on Ancestry says he died 1944 in Barrow - nothing registered on freebmd

George was alive 12.9.1944 when he was granted administration of Clara's estate.  Clara died  17.9.1943

How can you inform the GRO of his death?  Where is the proof of his death?

Surely he would have been reported as a missing person by his daughter & son in law given his age?

Appreciate all the different thoughts. Yes he was reported as a missing person but those involved are now long dead and others no longer in this country and faded memories. I doubt it's unusual that in a tragedy such as this some things were never spoken to wider family.any steers on newspapers would be useful.I am not in the area so even if could travel not able to visit.
