Lucy Green of Molesworth about 1831
« on: Monday 25 May 20 15:47 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help please? I am trying to find the baptism of Lucy Green. The 1841 census says she was 10 and the the 1851 that she was born in Molesworth. The 1841 census shows her with Jane 43 (I assume her mother although has the same surname) and siblings Susan 17, George 14 and William 12 (also all Greens). I did manage to get to the Hunts RO many years ago and found christenings for all of those plus Ann 1821, Sophia 1825, and Joseph 1830. I also found a burial for Joseph; Sophia is a servant at another residence in Molesworth. I have the name of William Tebbutt as father but don't know where I got that from. My visit was over 10 years ago and I have probably lost some of the paperwork I did when visiting the RO.

Many thanks for your reply. However I have seen the baptisms for the rest of her siblings which were at Molesworth and had mother's name as Jane. Then the 1841 census shows Lucy with Jane and her siblings in Molesworth so I am afraid that the family you found is not mine. Thank you for looking anyway. David

Her mother would have the same surname if she was a married lady.

Does Lucy marry?  If so you could find out her father that way.

Is she on her own in 1851?

Thank you. The information I have was from a visit to Hunts RO over 10 years ago when I was first starting out. At that time I didn't realise the importance of documenting everything! I suspect another visit will be needed.
The key I think is the baptisms of Lucy's siblings who I have recorded as being baptised at Molesworth between 1821 and 1830. I also have a 'father' as William Tebbutt but no marriage to Lucy's mother so can only assume that I saw that name on one of the baptisms. Lucy did marry in Keysoe Bedfordshire but those records are not on line. Once the lockdown is removed and ROs are open again I think a visit to Bedford and Huntingdon will be required. David

Thank you. So I assume father is showing as William Green not William Tebbutt which means I have to back track a bit! David

Her sister Sophia Green marries twice in Bedfordshire (Keysoe, 1852, to William Snell and Bedford St Cuthbert, 1867, to Brooks French). On both occasions she gives her father as William Green, shepherd.
