Yes, that's one of my stand bys in looking for lost births.

If you had been talking about a marriage then that might be different. I've heard that St. Martins didn't ask too many questions.  Like sticking to the time period to become "Of This Parish."  Off hand the only urgent reason a Baptism might be the health of mother or baby.  Hence Private baptisms.

Shelsey to Birmingham is about 30 miles.  That's a good two day walk.  So I suspect residence in B'ham is the most likely answer.
