Mary Anne Loran nee Allen
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 15:28 BST (UK) »
Please can you help me find my Gt Grandmother's correct DOB and her mother's maiden name. I know she was born in Mullingar to Peter Allen and Anne C, we THINK in 1872 and can find a birth record showing her mother as Anne COWEN.
However, on her death cert 27.12.1958 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, her mother's name shows as CONWAY. Could that just be an error when it should have been COWEN?
However we can find no Anne Conway as mother to Mary Ann Loran, married to Peter Allen.
Any ideas?
My Mum is pretty sure the death cert is wrong as it states Mary's DOB as 6th Oct 1872 though it was thought to be 8th October which could easily happen.
I really hope you help solve this mystery!

The death registration information is only as accurate as the informant - do you know who this was and what their relationship was to the deceased?

Thank you both.
Yes they were the two certs I'd found and as the Informant was my Uncle i.e. the grandson of the deceased; I guess he must have got her name wrong then? Simple as that I guess as there's no other solution in the records.

The 'grandson of the deceased' certainly opens up the potential for inaccuracy.

Yes, I assumed the name would have been checked in the records but obviously not.
Thank you so much, I have been on hours trying to find a Conway link when there is none :)

Do you know whether Mullingar was classed as North Dublin at one time?

I don't think so, since Mullingar is in Co Westmeath and a long way from Dublin.

Are you able to help me work out whether this is the same Ann Allen nee Cowan and how to translate some of the columns please?
