What is her name? 1758
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 16:47 BST (UK) »
Simon BAGSWORTH, Bachelor and Cordwainer married Sarah SIMPSON or JUDD by Licence at Goadby 12 Jul 1754 as per the attached clipping.

Does this mean that Sarah had been married previously?  Was there any protocol in a licence if a woman had been married previously to place her married name first and her maiden name second?

If she was married previously, thus a widow then I am trying to determine if her maiden name was JUDD or SIMPSON.  But if she was a widow then wouldn't the Licence record her widowhood status??

The register entry says Judd - but she makes her mark, and no indication of marital status :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

if you look at the second page of the licence, it says Judd, alias Simpson. Possibly her mother had remarried and she was known by both names. Or the whole family was known by both names.

Sounds logical.  The I would assume I would be able to find her baptism ???

I located the marriage record and there she is called JUDD.
