Yes she was helped by members of her family to look after my dad. She was actually from Haydock in Lancashire but the Wrights she went to live with were living in Radcliffe which is now classed as part of Bury, Lancs. Frances known as Gertie suffered with epilepsy and was institutionalised in the County Mental Hospital, Whiston, Lancashire where she died when she was 47yrs old on 15th December 1945.
Very sad. My dad stayed with the Wright family, of which there were many members, until he married my mother in 1942.

Thanks.
I had seen that Gertie was in the Asylum abd was wondering re the Radcliffe address - if it was family.
Yes, it is very sad but thankfully your dad was raised with family.

Hello KG,

I was wondering if you saw anything else about my Grandmother Frances Walker whilst she was in Ireland 1917-1920?  Would be interesting to know what she did for those 3 years she was there.

Thank you in advance
Pat (nee Swift)

Hi Pat,

You will find it difficult to find information on your grandmother while she was in Cork.

There was a census taken in Cork in April 1921 but it won't be released until next year.  If Gertie and John were still in Cork in April 1921 you will be able to see where they lived.

Have you taken a dna test?  That might be a route to take and see if you match with people from around the Lancashire area and you might find that you match with people who have the Walker surname.

I did come across a Walker family quite close to Haydock.

I will send you a PM with some extra information as I would not like to upset anyone in case they might still be alive.

Might be worth researching further.

Census in Cork in 1921?
Are you sure, the rest of the country was 1926.

Hi Mary, thank you for looking into this for me. Ive had a quick look at the links you sent but will look more closely when I can connect my laptop to a bigger monitor during the day. I would never have thought to look at the combined names like that. Will see what I can find out about that person. Once again thank you. You are very kind. Pat x

Yes Sinnan,

You are right.  Of course there wasn't a census in 1921.  I was thinking that we have all been
looking to have the 1926 census released this year or next year which is still up for debate with the powers that be!

Pat sorry about that.

Thanks for pointing that out.
