Thanks Sandra.  I believe the immigration date is actually 1904 (but it looks like a 7).  Frederick married Inez Beatrice in 1907.  This, the birthdates and the occupation fit with my great-uncle.  Thanks so much for all of this fabulous information.

You're very welcome.   Immigration dates can vary on census but obviously we have to transcribe exactly what they say. There was a passenger list for Fred in 1904.

Checking the 1881 Census, Frederick Ridge aged 0, so just born, lives in 'Catterall', Garstang, Lancashire.
Catterall is just a couple of miles from Garstang.
Father James Ridge, aged 56, mother Nancy, aged 44. (You said in a PM you knew his mother was Nancy), and on his marriage in Quebec to Inez Beatrice  it gives his father as James from somewhere indecipherable in Lancashire.
Frederick's birth registration is Oct/Nov/Dec, so he would have been just a few months old by the time of the Census in 1881.
Also in 1881 in the household is Andrew Ridge aged 6, Mary E Dobson aged 17, step daughter, and John Parkinson aged 69, father in law.

In 1891 he lives with his mother at Catterall, a grocer, who is already a widow, and her daughter Mary Elizabeth Dobson. He is a scholar.

In 1901 he still lives with his mother. His sister is by now Mary E Jackson, and Rose Dobson is also in the household who is 4 years old.

He doesn't seem to appear in the 1911 Census in the uk, but appears to turn up as Frederick Karl in the Canadian Census.

Looks like this is him.
