Ancestry have the images of the Wiltshire parish registers to view if you have a subscription.

They also have the Wiltshire Wills. Morgan Byrt left a Will; http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D181023  You should be able to look at on Ancestry. Whether it is of any use though. Morgan Byrt was a bit of a character,

Can I revive this old thread. The Cricklade Museum is of the opinion (see the mentioned PDF) that Mary Cuss, the natural daughter of Morgan BYRT and Martha CUSS, married Robert JORDAN on 17 Sep 1807 at Cricklade. The problem is that the Parish Records have the same marriage as between Robert JORDAN and Mary DOWDESWELL.

My first thought was that Mary DOWDEWELL must be a widow, but this doesn't;t seem very likely given that Mary CUSS was born in 1790 and would have been only 17 at the time of the 1807 marriage. If she was a widow, she would have had to entered into her first marriage at a really early age.

I would welcome any ideas or clarification.

Clarification may be difficult Ancestry have a photo of the marriage of Robert Jordan to Mary Dowdeswell, 25 Dec 1807.

Up until the Marriage Act 1929

'The legal age of puberty was fourteen years for males and twelve years for females.  This section amended the law so that a marriage contracted by persons either of whom was under the age of sixteen was void.

My x Grandmother, Elizabeth HEWER was christened 23 November 1810 at Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire and married by x Grandfather, May 1824,  at Maisey/Mersey Hampton.
Elizabeth BOWN is aged 41 on the 1851 census - which was taken 30 March 1851.

BOWNS (with an S, but should be BOWN), William Part of Down Ampney and HEWER alias RODBURN Elizabeth o.t.p). 

Edward BOWNE married Elizabeth CUSS - 21 January 1825 - at Down Ampney.
