Bristol/Gloucestershire Schools for Electrical Engineering c1910
« on: Friday 05 June 20 01:29 BST (UK) »
I'd appreciate suggestions of Electrical Engineering Training Schools between 1905-1913.

Researching family member from the UK, Electrical Engineering Lists. Hope to obtain program registration info to confirm family connection. This method has been extremely helpful for other family members.

Thank you

Amazing what you learn in the newspapers.
In 1910 a successful experiment was conducted proving it was possible to telephone from a moving train. They laid wires on the track, but there was no physical connection between the train and the wires. Just 18 inches of air.

There was a Western Local Section of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.

They had a big lecture meeting

25 October 1916 - Western Daily Press - Bristol, Bristol, England

In 1904 the British Institution of Electrical Engineers celebrated their 16th anniversary.

Hi Mckha489

That is interesting about the telephone use aboard a train...

Hi Mckha489

I emailed the Institute of Electrical Engineers last night. Hopefully they will have additional particulars. I'm trying to tie Douglas Wilson McIntyre into my family with more certainty.

He's got eight several listings in the UK, Electrical Engineers Lists: Graduate in 1913, then Associate Member from 1917 on.

He is listed as an Electrical Engineer in his 1918 RAF Service Records. Born: 9 Dec 1888, Penang, Straits Settlements.. Wife: Nellie. No idea when he would have arrived from Asia.

I'm not sure if the following Bristol 1911 Census Record listing is him, in which case it already identifies him as an Electrical Engineer. Would that be likely when the UK Lists put his Graduation as 1913?

Douglas W McIntyre, Bristol, Gloucestershire. 50 Zetland Road. Electrical Engineer, Corporate Sub Station, Bristol Corporation. Single; Boarder. Born Calcutta, India. Anglo-Indian Resident.

There is the following 1939 England and Wales Listing:
Douglas W Mc Intyre
2 Cooper Road. Elec Sub-station Engr H ?? Married. Birth: 9 Dec 1884.
Not sure if an error in year and actually the same fellow, or another. (My gut says same fellow.)
Wife: Helen, with Ellen written above. I realize that Nellie could be a nickname.

There is a scarcity of records for my family Penang, unless they sail back/forth. Unfortunately Douglas doesn't seem to have done that. And seems to have remained childless.

Thanks for any insight!
