The problem for hmserge is that we don't know for sure who John Webster married.

The practice at that time was to marry in the bride's parish -- in which case the marriage in the apparant year hmserge has -- is at Bradford. With such a common name though - we can't know for sure. I am simply working on 'supposition' and we shouldn't do that!!

hmserge -- if we go back a stage, which of your own ancestors is descended from John and Ann please -- ie how did you reach that husband and wife?

I descend from Ann Webster born 1804.  She married a Thomas Ingle on 25 December 1824 at Woodkirk. I’m not sure how we found John and Ann as the parents.  I’d have to go through the notes. 

Maybe we’re wrong somewhere and it’s not John and Ann.

I’ve just had a quick look through.  Maria Ingle born 9 December 1824 West Ardsley Woodkirk is the daughter of Thomas Ingle and Ann Webster, but this was before the marriage date?  I’m confused now.
 
It also says for the christening at Woodkirk “Maria Ingle Webster (mother Ann Webster who remarried Ingle). “
For Maria’s baptism it says abode ‘Wortley’,  looks like this is near Farnley?

Something doesn’t add up now, I feel quite confused ...help

All that has happened here is that Ann was pregnant and had baby Maria on 8 Dec 1824.

Thomas Ingle and Ann Webster then married on 25 Dec 1824 (with consent - meaning at least one of them was under 21 at the date of marriage).

Maria was not baptised until 8 July 1827 - (on the same date as another child, James Ingle, was baptised). Hence Maria was 2 years old at the time of her christening.

As a result - at the time of baptism, the couple did not have to reveal that Maria was illegitimate.

(In actual fact her surname SHOULD have been Webster - as Ann was unmarried at the time of Maria's birth.)
