LACEY family of Colchester
« on: Sunday 07 June 20 16:14 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I am trying to trace living descendants of the LACEY family who were living in Colchester in the late 1800s.

My Great Aunt was married to Charles Briggs who was the son of Dorothy LACEY (b. 1895, Colchester to Edward Lacey and Clara BURCH). Charles was an only child and they did not have any children of their own so I have inherited (from Charles via my Great Aunt) lots of family documents and photographs for the Lacey family which I would like to return to a living descendant.

Dorothy's siblings who may have living descendants include Minnie/Minna (b. 1886), Edward (b. 1888), Charles (b. 1890), Evelyn (b. 1897) and May (b. 1903) all born in Colchester.

If anyone has any connections to help me send the things I have to their rightful home, that would be fantastic.

Otherwise if anyone has any suggestions as to where we might donate these that would be great too.

Thanks
:-)

Yes I see you’re right now. Sorry they’re not my family so I had to do a quick search!

Have shared my post in the Hampshire group too in case anyone has links with the Hampshire Laceys!

Bertie died on the Titanic so we know he didn’t have any children.

We have a lot of Titanic paraphernalia saved by his family as a result. This is included in the collection we want to pass on. I’m just struggling to find a living relative I can contact.

May Clara married in 1946. Unlikely to have had any children. Certainly cannot find any.

Dorothy Lilian Married a Walter Briggs in 1915 & had one son, Charles Edward B. Briggs, born Ripon, Yorkshire in 1917. She died in 1986. Charles died Hitchin, Herts, 1977

Evelyn Victoria married a Gerald Knowles, 1923 & had one son, Raymond G Knowles, born 1926, Wandsworth. Raymond died 1990, Nottingham.

Charles died 1946 in Sthampton. He may have married an Edith Chamberlain in 1914.
If it is his marriage, he had six children between 1916 & 1926.  1 male & 5 females

If the marriage in Uxbridge was the correct Edward Charles, he had two sons between 1923 & 1927
