"Gebbel Gale", Staffordshire ???
« on: Monday 08 June 20 11:45 BST (UK) »
Can any kind soul recognise a birthplace in Staffordshire in the 1901 census that looks like "Gebbel Gale" (please see the attached image).
[RG13, Piece number   2679, Folio 130, Page   16]
I don't know the area, and can't find it in Google or an a map.
Thanks,
John

No but does the same person appear on another census so you can check the birth place there?

If I've got the right person, then 1891 he is said to be born in Priestfield, with mother, Rebecca, and siblings  :-\

I think he may be still with his mother Rebecca in 1911 :-\  However he is listed as widowed!!

Yes. Priestfield, with mother, Rebecca. But where's "Gebbel Gale"? I've looked around Ppriestfield on the OS maps.

1871 = born Bilston

This is the 1871 route, which includes where John and his mum were living.

I think it's 'Gibbet Gate'.
Even in this little clip you can see the writer doesn't 'cross his 't's'.
Evidently on the Wolverhampton Road.

Another mention of Gibbet Gate - a colliery near Priestfield.
