Charles Watson c.1750 Manchester
« on: Monday 08 June 20 21:39 BST (UK) »
My ancestor Charles Watson married Ann Bailey of Bowden, Cheshire in 1772 in Bowden. His place of residence was given as Manchester, occupation Linen Draper. They had a son Walter born in 1772 and he was known to reside in Castlefields at the time of his second marriage in 1840 to Elizabeth Taylor.
I am having difficulty establishing the birthdate/baptism of Charles, which would have been between 1747 and 1751. I have found more than one, but cannot identify which would be the correct one. Thanks for any help.

Doesn't help with finding a baptism, but in case you haven't seen it,  this sounds like your man in Altrincham in 1777?

Thank you #Maddys52. What a find! Seems like failure in business ran in the family as his son, Walter, also ran into financial trouble some years later. Cheers, Mike.

These are the children I have found for Charles & Ann, I’m not sure if you are aware of any others, on occasions naming patterns can help.

James 1780, George 1781, Charles 1784, Samuel 1788

In saying that I note one tree which gives the following baptism for Ann.

Ann Bailey
Mother Esther
Father Thomas Bailey
Baptism 14/01/1750 Bowdon, Cheshire

I think the one considering for Charles is below.

Charles Watson – parents George & Alice
Baptism 5/11/1747 Stretford, St Matthew Lancashire

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thanks for looking, Colin. Unfortunately the family group you have does not tie in with mine. Regrettably there are about three Charles Watsons born around the same time in that area, and all had wives called Ann! My Charles and Anne had a son called Walter. Cheers, Mike
