Missing marriage.
« on: Saturday 13 June 20 19:23 BST (UK) »
Hi - just wondering if anyone could me to find a marriage that must have happened, but I can't find it!

Susan GILBERT b. Birmingham 1870 marriage to William (or possibly Charles) EARP b. Birmingham around 1867 (he is recorded on Ancestry as Hearp in the 1881 census.)

The marriage should logically have taken place in Birmingham, but may have been in the Chesterfield area given some of the other clues.

I've tried everything I can think of, so if anyone could suggest anything at all that would locate the event I would be incredibly grateful.

Thanks all - Clarice is my Paternal Grandmother, and the facts you've provided all check out.  Susan Gilbert (Earp) died when her 3rd child (Clarice) was only 2, the 2 previous children died in infancy.  Pretty much the only thing I don't have is that marriage.  Susan is indeed named as the deceased wife of William Earp, and Clarice's birth cert has William as father and Susan (nee Gilbert) as her mother.

Is the fact that first born (Oswald) had his mother's maiden name as a middle name relevant do you think?  Were they perhaps unmarried?

In the absence of any registration I don't think they married.  I was puzzled as to why her brother in law reported her death rather than her husband.  It doesn't show him as deceased.  The online tree  has a photo of her

Hi

Could it be that Susan Gilbert married Mr Price then (after "mis-hap") married Charles Earp?

Think this is what is being looked at

Q1 1891

Birmingham  Vol 6d p157

Charles Earp  <<<
Kate Evelyn Hanson
Susan Price  <<<
David Venvil
David Veuvil

Only problem is this before the 1891 census, when Susan's still Gilbert. Also other records show this Charles married Kate Hanson, and has father's name George
