1871 Census - Westmore
« on: Saturday 20 June 20 17:36 BST (UK) »
First is an Isle of Wight marriage 1869.   Free BMD records William Westmore (born c.1842 in IOW) m Emma Saunders (born c. 1851 in IOW).  I've found their census records for 1881 onwards but not for for 1871 some two years following their marriage.   The spellings of Westmore and Westmorland might be a hurdle.   Grateful for help or suggestions for William and Emma's  1871 census record.

Second, is William Westmore with family and/or ancestors.  William was born c,1842 in IOW and would appreciate help in finding him, before marriage, to identify parents names.

there is a marriage 3 Nov 1824 Brook Hamts
David Westmore & Jane Hunt
so probably the 1841 birth reg posted is the correct one
His mother Jane died before 1851 and his father David died 1870

I am wondering if the 1871 census for that area is missing as I cant find any Westmores

Was William Westmore Methodist?
as he and siblings were baptised on the Methodist circuit

Many thanks for your helpful replies.    Information you've found will help with my research of the Westmore family.

Research note;  The surname Westmore born IOW is widespread and Ian Nelson's post of three WWs  is a typical example.   Also, the christian names George Edward, or Edward George are not uncommon.   Registered one way, GE,  I've found recorded as EG.

Thanks again
