EDMONDS m FURLONG
« on: Wednesday 24 August 05 09:17 BST (UK) »
Good morning List,

My first posting!!

I am researching my GGGrandfather, Richard Henry EDMONDS b c1790 who married Catherine FURLONG b 5 April 1793 Wexford Town Roman Catholic , abt1820s.

One of their sons was my G Grandfather, George Gilbert EDMONDS b c1828 who came to Australia c1854.  There were other sons.

Is anyone able to assist?

Thanks

Hello Bruce,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Thank you for that further information, Christopher,

In 1853 my Catherine FURLONG would have been the spouse / widow of Richard Henry EDMONDS.

Therefore, Catherine FURLONG b 5 April 1793 could have been included as Catherine EDMONDS, if she was still living.

Does this get closer to the mark?

Thanks once again

Thanks very much, once again, christopher.

I think the religion would have been R/C.
