Boyle of High Street Rothesay
« on: Wednesday 24 June 20 10:34 BST (UK) »
Hi, doing some work for my wife to establish her family. Her 3 times GF and GM, Daniel Boyle and Fanny Boyle (ms Sweeney) were born in Ireland, very keen to establish where, around 1816. Not sure when Daniel died. If there are any descendants on the island would appreciate any information that is available. I understand the move from Ireland to major industrial towns but why do the Boyles head for Bute?

Last query, Fanny dies in Rothesay aged 84, January 1893. Her usual residence is a location which I'm struggling to decipher, it looks like I****hall, Kingarth. Any ideas?

Can you post an extract from the death certificate for us to see if we can work out where it is.

Also you say born abut 1816, died 1983 aged 84. Which one is the typo?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Apologies, fat fingers and poor proof reading. All 19th century, death 1893, got my 8’s and 9’s crossed. As for location believe it is the cottages at Piper Hall, Kingarth!

There is a William and Fanny Boyle of Piperhall Cottage , Bute on the Census transcriptions of 1871(FreeCEN ages 62 and 50) and 1881(LDS Scotlandspeople ages 74 and 66) , this gives their birthplace as Kingarth Bute not Ireland  :-\

Not sure if that helps or hinders ?

Is it Daniel or William Boyle?

There is a death in Kingarth Bute for a William Boyle, aged 78 in 1887.

The 1871 census also shows William and Fanny being born in Bute.

What was the name of the husband on the death you viewed for a Fanny Boyle in 1893? Did it show her maiden name as Sweenie/ey? Checking on SP, there is only one surname showing for that death on the index (Boyle).

Monica

Added: There is a marriage between a William Boyle and a Fanny Martin in 1862 in Kingarth Bute. Think it is likely this couple that Ev picked up on the censuses and the death in 1893.

Maybe Daniel and Fanny did not make it over from Ireland?

Schoolboy error, I have clearly been following the wrong Fanny Boyle. The mistake, on my part,is simply too convoluted to outline here. My Boyle family appear on the Island in the 1870’s living with William Dougherty at 107 high Street. Hugh Boyle (Fanny Sweeny’s) son moves in with his new wife and in laws. Monica I now believe Is correct and Daniel and Fanny never make it to Bute. Apologies for the spurious post and thanks for your patience. Jim
