Rhoda Frances WOODGER from Liss
« on: Thursday 25 June 20 08:42 BST (UK) »
Morning Everyone,

I'm trying to find out about a relative called Rhoda Frances WOODGER. I do know some basic facts about her but I'd like to try and add some detail to her story.

She was born in Liss on the 19th of December 1921 to William Woodger and Annie Welch and had an older brother called Ernest.

I know she joined the ATS in 1942 and served for the duration of the war.

I know she married Robert Pink in 1973 and that it was in Petersfield. He was also from Liss so I'm assuming the couple lived there for their whole lives.

I know he died in 1983 and Rhoda a few years later in 1987. I know they were still in Liss so I'm assuming they may have a grave there, if anyone lives there I'd love to see a photo.

It sound like I have a lot already but what I want to know is what Rhoda did during the war and what she did after.

Did she come straight home to Liss and if so where did she go, was she living with her parents? What did she do for a living? I can't find any other marriage for her so was Robert her only husband?

What did her husband do for a living? Did he serve in WW2?

Any help to pad her story out would be really appreciated.

Her service record will still be with the MOD.

You can apply here:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records

They aren't online anywhere; only available through the MOD.

Otherwise you could look at Electoral Rolls?
At Hampshire Archives:
https://www.hants.gov.uk/librariesandarchives/archives/collections/electoralregister

Problem being that they are listed by address, not by name.

Have you tried Telephone Directories?

Thanks for the help everyone,

I haven't looked at electoral registers, I did look on Ancestry to see if they were there but I'll try your link, how would I get at historic phone directories?

Interesting about the balloon race and confirmation of death date, thank you.

Hi,

I've just had a look at the link to Hampshire Archive, am I doing something wrong or are they not searchable on line?

Thanks,

Michael

Probably not!

Normally you have to visit the archives in person, or get someone to do it for you.

We have all become used to getting information at our fingertips - forgetting the time and costs involved in getting these documents online.

Me? I started doing research BEFORE there was an internet!
