Surname: Corjeag
« on: Thursday 25 June 20 12:56 BST (UK) »
I have just found a marriage in West Derby, Liverpool in 1895 between Henry Moss ( a 2nd cousin of mine) and Catherine Maria Corjeag/Corgeag.

I have never come across this surname before and assumed it had been mistranscribed but I've done a bit of searching and am no closer to finding out if its the bride's actual surname or whether I'm missing something (answers on a postcard....!!).

The marriage cert gives her residence as Isle of Man so I'm wondering if that might be the key? Is it an old IoM surname ?
HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

I'd never heard it (IOM has some strange sounding surnames) but Googling finds three results that emanate from the island in various spellings, one on an IOM genealogy site.

Liverpool was of course the embarkation point for Manx travellers, some settled. I have a few who married in (Quaile, Cubbin, Cooil etc) thereabouts

 :)

The link that I gave mentions Michael as the only parish in the I of M that the surname was found.

Thanks everyone.

That must be her - father's name on the marriage cert is Wm Henry, farmer.

I didn't even know there was a place on the IoM called Michael!!

Well, you learn something new every day. I wonder how you pronounce it?
