James ROBISON

Hi.  Wondered if anyone can help to track down info on the above.  I've looked at the info on this site and can't find a connection.

According to the 1939 Register, James was born in 1893.  This date fits with his age at death too (1959) aged 66

A daughter says he was born in Annan but knows little else about him as she was very young when he died.  She believes he was married twice and married her mother in 1938 in Barton.

Any info would be very welcome.

I presume that James Robison's marriage to Elizabeth Neild in 1938 was in Barton, Lancashire    The marriage cert would confirm his father's name

Looking at Scotlands People there is a birth of a James Robison in 1893 in Annan Dumfrieshire.   It is a pay to view site but I had a look and it lists him as born 5 Jan 1893 Prestondam, Annan with parents James Robison and Elizabeth Walker.   His father  is listed as a famer and their marriage 11 August 1886 Dumfries    You should be able to compare the birth date with his birth date listed on the 1939 Register

I can't see the family together in 1901 at the moment but I think this may be the parents in 1891 living in Prestondam, Annan

There is also a Will for a James Robison , date 21st July 1909 , died 15th Sept. 1908 , Prestondam, Annan.

Wedding cert!!!  Of course...  that would have been the obvious route!  Yes that's the right marriage.

It's really good of you to do this.  It looks like very interesting information, which James' daughter will be absolutely thrilled to receive.

I've amended this (  ):

I'm having another look through all the information that you so kindly looked up.  Nicholas made me think, as you indicated that this was a woman.   So, I Googled it and sure enough, Nicholas was a common female name in Scotland, the Male version being Nichol. 

I was intrigued to know of the relationship and found a marriage on 25 Sept 1865 Robert and Nicholas Beattie. 
(However, I have since found  a Robert living with his mother, Isabella, sibling James and a nephew (James) & niece Isabel in 1861 and he has a sister named Nicholas!  So, this will be his sister in 1881. 

Maybe the Robert & Nicholas Beattie marriage will fit in somewhere as the niece above is called Isabel Beattie!)

I couldn't have found this without your input. 

I'm still reading/digging but would like to thank you again for your help with this.

This information is also intriguing.

James married two days before he was made bankrupt but five years later they are still living on the farm which used to belonged to his uncle.  You would initially assume that the farm had been left to him by his uncle (who married late) but this may mean that somebody else owns it and they are renting/leasing!  Would suspect a copy of Robert's will would solve this).

Is there a way of finding out who owns/leases properties at this time?


Different members of the Pickering and Thomson families seem to live with them over time too.
