He went down with the Nova Scotia in 1943 after it was torpedoed by a U boat - not very clear photo on article

A little more from uboat.net
https://uboat.net/allies/merchants/ship/2476.html
From the Mercantile Navy List 1940
http://www.crewlist.org.uk/data/viewimages?regtype=MNL&year=1940&name=NOVA%20SCOTIA&steamsail=Steam&page=279
NOVA SCOTIA official number 147363, Last crew agreement and logbook and registration details can be obtained from the National Archive
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C11044335
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C13337342
Lloyd's Captains Register, available from London Metropolitan Archives, will have details of all the vessels he served on from when he obtained his First Mates certificate.
They have an excellent research service if you are unable to attend personally.
He is listed as an apprentice in a 1915 crew agreement of the ship  PENMORVAH

Alfred Hender, b.3.8.1892. Discharge No. 836880. BOT Master's Certificate of Competency 009807.
He has a  file available on Ancestry £site giving details of service obtaining 2nd Mate and Choff and possibly Master.

His WW2 medal file is here BT 395/1/42651 - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D4339474
He has record cards held in the Fourth Register of Seamen including a photo. I have transcribed his service below. These cards are not complete and are known to contain mistakes and omissions so a guide only.
