I'm working hard to digest all the great information you have provided me. Amazed how George seemed to get around in the United States, I only knew of him in Akron, Ohio and in California. Most surprising for me is that I can't trace a record of his marriage in Scotland. I tried also to find a death certificate for her in Scotland without success. They may have divorced at some point. However no sign of a marriage record for him and Mae.
It seems to me that his first wife probably never came to the U.S. Still quite a few puzzles about the elusive George McPherson !! Nobody left here in Scotland who might have been able to help me. A grateful thanks for all your efforts and the interesting information provided.

Finally found George McPherson's first marriage. He married Lizzie Johnston on August 30th.1905 in Lerwick, Shetlands. It was a "Christian Bretheren" ceremony.  But checked for a Death for her here in Scotland without success. So, she either came over to the U.S. or they may have been divorced. (The other possibility I would rather not contemplate is that he committed bigamy !!!).
Tracking down his marriage to Mae DeShaw would have helped. 
However,,,a step forward at least.
