Nanny -- you can view the cert on Scotlands People (just in case you don't know). It will cost 6 units only, so much cheaper than buying an English one.

If you are not a member - you will need to register and purchase some units. However - it's understandable the daughter getting the name wrong - she may only have known her as Granny (or variant!)

Can I ask for some more help please?
I found Maria’s dad’s first marriage to Rebecca denham, in 1838. She dies in 1842, leaving two children. James remarries. This time a Sarah. She was born in hursley in 1821 and has a daughter Sarah in 1848. I can’t find their marriage on ancestry (lots of trees suggest Sarah Elizabeth Allery, who is born in the right place at the right time, but I think she marries a William?) and don’t have a maiden name.
Can anyone find them?

Sarah ALDER's first marriage was probably to Charles CAWTE in 1842 and she married James in 1845, his surname indexed as LAIT.

Thank you Dundee for the heads up about GRO index.

I’ve now looked at this for another part of the tree I’m researching and have come to a block again ...

I have Beatrice Snelgrove who was born 1887 St Denys Southampton.

Her father is George Snelgrove (1843 Southampton) and on the 1891 Census, she is living with him and mother Mary. George and Mary are also on the 1871 and 1881 censuses together with their children.

I’ve found a marriage in 1866 for George Snelgrove to Mary Unwin. All the children born 1868-1885 are mother’s maiden name Unwin. All on 1891 census with Beatrice.

However I can’t get to the bottom of the Gorey maiden name on Beatrice's birth record. I can’t find a Gorey/Snelgrove marriage?

Any help would be appreciated.
