Rochdale Cemetery
« on: Wednesday 05 August 20 16:33 BST (UK) »
Hello  -  If any member plans to visit Rochdale Cemetery is it possible you could take a photo of a headstone for me.   I used to live in Castleton, Rochdale and drive there myself, but we have moved a some distance away and coronavirus has made it necessary for me and hubby to stay indoors.  Been inside since March.

The grave  has the names Charles and Sophie Whiteley - Fred and Sarah Ann Bottomley.   There are also cremated remains for two other Bottomleys - Florence and John Henry but not sure if these are going to be on the headstone.

The grave is number 23176 and is situated in Square R Plot 24  - I have attached a cemetery plan.   Hope somebody can help.   Thank you

Hi Michelew, I am hoping to go up this weekend and I have looked on the map the grave is very close to my family grave. Is it a big stone any noticeable features?  I went up a few months back looking for another family grave.  I had all the details but I was going round in circles trying to find it Its not always possible to read the grave number.  I shall try my best to find it and take a photo.  Anne.

Were Charles & Sophia siblings?  Did Charles die 1912 & Sophia 1920?

Did Fred die 1921?

Hello    I have no idea who Charles and Sophia Whiteley are and have nobody to ask - the only person available is my nephew Lee and he won't know.   Charles was buried 21 December 1912
Sophia - 21 September 1920.   Florence and John Henry are my nephews grandparents and  Fred and Sarah Ann are John Henry's parents.   The reason for me trying to unlock this is many many years ago my nephew with his mum and dad (now both passed) moved to Morecambe.     I have done a bit of research but can't find any Charles and Sophia Whiteley nor a marriage.   I was hoping there might be some dates on the headstone which would help me.

Looking forward to the picture.  regards Michele

Michele, hope you don't mind me asking - have you definitely established that there is actually a gravestone?

jonw65 I had no idea Family search had the registers for graves. Do you know what years they have? I have about 5 family graves in Rochdale Cemetery. My mum and dad are buried very close to 23176 so it won't be a wasted journey.
THanks Anne
