James Close and Mary Irwin or Irvine Down, Ireland: marriage record
« on: Friday 07 August 20 12:27 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for information on James Close and Mary Irwin or Irvine.

They come to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia on 12th July 1855 with their children from Liverpool, England on the Conway (arriving 14/10/1855) and the shipping record says that James and Mary are from Down, Ireland.

The children are Agnes (b. about 1842), John (about 1844), William (about 1851), Margaret (abt 1854) (she died onboard the ship) and the two younger children were baptised on 14 May 1855 in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland. The shipping record says all the children were born in Scotland.

I am unable to find a marriage for James and Mary in either Scotland or Ireland.

I found a baptism for James Close who's parents are Peggy Clarke and William Close and this was in Dromore, Down, Ireland.

James and Mary had more children once they settled in Hobart, Tasmania. They had another daughter who they named Margaret (who is my direct ancestor), Ellen, James and a male.

They are both buried in Castle Forbes Bay Cemetery, Castle Forbes Bay, Tasmania.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Stephanie.
