Question: Is there a way to see the actual pages in the Tithe Books?
PRONI have digitised the Tithe Applotment books for Parishes in Northern Ireland (1823-1837). They are within the e-catalogue. If you can follow this procedure:
Tithe Applotments look-up method - PRONI Go to e-catalogue
https://apps.proni.gov.uk/eCatNI_IE/SearchPage.aspx When you reach the e-Catalogue, select the option to Browse on the top right-hand corner of the page.
In the search box enter FIN/5, which will bring up a list of 58 entries in the FIN series.
Click on FIN/5 and you will be brought to a page of 22 entries in the FIN/5 series.
Click Next for the second page.
Clicking takes you to the second page of results. Click FIN/5/A which will bring you to a list of 317 results.
These are the Tithe Applotment Books for each parish, in alphabetical order.
Click Next several times to find the parish you are seeking (Comber)(FIN/5/A/82).
Click View on the right.
Click I Agree for Copying and Copyright Declaration.
A pdf image of the book for that parish will be downloaded.
Be aware that these are very large files and may take minutes to download (several minutes) and dont try to open or download them if you have limited data.
When open, scroll down to amended page 13 (top right) view Magherascouse tithe records (also on page 14).
Good news! William Clarke and James Clarke are there. Not sure of the exact year date of the Tithe Applotment for their townland.
