Name of Land
« on: Tuesday 11 August 20 06:55 BST (UK) »
In the attached Snippet_1, in the middle of the third line, is the name of a message of land called D........ (?). Would someone be kind enough to transcribe the name for me please.

This is part of the seizure of land from Sir Francis Mannock in 1717, a papist.
Thanks in advance and kind regards.

Derosans?   A name I have never heard, but it appears very VERY rarely in the old newspapers as a surname.

Yes I think it is "Dewlans" too. Probably Dewlands Farm: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1036963

Thank you Goldie61, Shaun J and bbart. Like bbart, I thought it may have been Derosans, which I believe was a surname from the Belgium area. "Dewlans" as in "Dewlands Farm" seems applicable.
Anyone else with ideas would be much appreciated. Kind regards, francosos

We know from the will that the messuage of land was in the parishes of Higham and Holton so Dewlands Farm  fits very well - it straddles both of those parishes.
