Are Photos of shared matches randomly generated
« on: Thursday 13 August 20 18:06 BST (UK) »

I wonder why the selected 6 photos ancestry chooses to display are never high matches and odten ones with no searchable trees or unlinked trees.

At the moment  2 ,of my mothers selected matches are under 6cm which seems in contrast to the removal of matches under 8cm

Has anyone ever come across a proposed photo match with a distinct family resemblance ?

I just clicked on a new pic on my DNA profile he has a 15cm match to me but 23 cm to my mum and an unusual surname so may prove a crucial link to a family line I know little about .
So it's worth taking a look at random photo matches sometimes !

With mine I think it's a selection of newest matches.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Yes I suppose most recent matches shown makes sense but photos on my aunts page have remained the same for a long time .
I havent had any large cm matches for a while. I get disappointed if I click on someone whose taken the time to include a profile photo but not put a tree.

Sadly I think people treat Ancestry as another social media site and put up photos of themselves and have completely lost the point that it is  for genealogy and connecting potential relatives. I have a closer than 4th cousin match who hasn't bothered to respond to my messages or put even the smallest tree on Ancestry. But she has a flashy profile picture, the same one she uses on Facebook and Twitter
